Architectual CAD for Mac? CAD careers? Which software?
I'm coming from packaging background and was looking to re-train and make a switch to more tech work (cad). Is there software I can train on (a mac) that will prepare me? Any suggestions? How's the job market?

CAD career questions? Mac platform? School? Advice?
I have been a print designer (packaging, advertising etc..) for 10 years. Big companies, nice portfolio but BURNT OUT. I was looking for a serious career change. CAD seemed like it might be a good direction to go. More technical at least. Advice? Software? Do I need to get some schooling? (I'm a self-taught designer) What about the MAC platform?

Is getting an Engineering degree useless for CAD career?
I will be obtaining a degree in civil engineering soon, and realized that everywhere I have co-oped at, I use Autocad alot, and the firms realize I am good at it (I have 7+ yrs of experience, 23yrs old) and that is all they ever have me do! I figure I may as well persue an autocad-related career, but is my engineering degree going to be overkill, and not compensated for? no doubt I am going to complete the degree, i have 4 classes to take! Just wanted to get an idea of what you guys thought. Thanks for the input, and you are right, engineering can take you in many different directions.

A CAD Career. Autocad. Too late to start?
I am 40 years old and just been made redundant from a Pre-Press position in a Printing Company. I want a change of direction. I am considering taking a foundation level CAD course covering Autocad with the intention of follow up courses afterwards. I understand the basic course will give me an insight into the world of CAD, and from there, depending on if I show an apptitude for it, can specialise after that (architecture or engineering directions). Friends have said that my biggest problem will not be the course, but getting a job after the course. I will have the qualifications, but would anyone employ a man of my age with no background knowledge of the industry I am asked to do plots for... I understand I would be starting off at the very bottom. But to me it seems that I can earn more income at the bottom of this ladder than I can at the top of my current one! And there seem to be more jobs around. I would appreciate any feedback on this, positive or negative. I can continue in my own industry (looking for a job...) whilst I learn, and understand it could be a couple of years before I get to a employable level. What do you think. My feelings are I want to go for it.... Tone
